check up

Tonight is fussy baby night. I'm not sure exactly why, but he is not winding down for either of us. So I thought I'd write while Paul is taking a turn.

We have been lucky enough to have my mom staying with us this week. She was lucky because Sam had his 2 week check up today and she got to go. He has chunked up a bit and is a little longer than he was to begin with:

Ht: 20.5" (49%)
Wt:6lb 11 oz (8%)

He's chunked up right well, so the doc is good with us going to demand feeding now instead of schedule. (hurray!) Though it means I am likely to be up a lot more and paul will be able to just do emergency diapering at night, I'm taking my chances that Sam's going to give us closer to 4 or 5 hours of sleep at night instead of 2 to 3 hours blocks. The other nice thing about waiting between feedings is he's actually hungry when I get ready to feed him. So we can feed and then get on to diaper changing, instead of mucking about essentially playing with his food. It makes breast feeding a) make more sense and b) become less of a hassle. It's not a perfect system, but it is a vast improvement over scheduled breast night feeding. :( We also found out that apparently he has teeth coming. You read that right. Apparently Sam has natal teeth, which means his baby teeth are already coming in. Which explains a lot, including why I'm getting sore. We'll see how long we can breast feed before he starts biting.

My thank you list is a mile long, so hopefully in the next couple of days I'll get to writing some of those finally. We have one more day of meals from folks, and then we'll be on our own. We have been so thankful for the meals. We would seriously have starved without them. i've also found that caring for a baby is actually like the ultimate civ/catan game. It is the same kind of nurture and build need that I have in both of these games. :)

Teeth?! I knew your kid would be an overachiever. ;)

Glad he's growing well and hope better sleep is headed your way. Amazing how 4 hours straight can suddenly sound good instead of awful, huh?

Hello Mrs. F.!
