So, after exchanging emails with wmw last night, I took her advice and called in Sam's lingering diaper rash from many weeks ago. I'm embarrassed how long it took us to call the doctor about it. But to be honest, it did seem to get better before it got worse. So talked with the nurse who quickly heard "sores" and told us to bring him in. Which I managed as my first solo fight with the carseat et al. We were just starting to get the 5 to 6 inches of snow coming in at the time, so I decide I really couldn't drag my potential sick baby (had he caught our head cold? was it allergies making him coughy...or just the humidifier?) into the snow. Paul met us there and we had another good visit with the doc. I again forgot something important from the diaper bag (um butt cream) so I've now sworn never to take anything out of the diaper bag ever. We're home now with 2 new creams and a reminder to contact the doc if it hasn't shown improvement by Saturday. I'm so glad I talked to my sister-in-law.
Tobo has been sleeping most of today, which means this is a good day in my guilty mommy estimation. I got to sit with him on the couch and read. I managed to get the diapers in the wash but bearably anything else. I assume this means tonight will be another long night, which seems to be par for the course. Tobo sleeps about 2.5 hours and then is up hungry and with a wet diaper. Because we are fighting the rash of doom, we appreciate him telling us when he's wet. It does mean we burn through a lot of diapers in a one night stint. We get through 7 prefolds and 2 pockets a night on average.
On the subject of cloth diapers, I'm now trying to figure out what to buy, when I realized I don't really have a budget set for diapers. I'm pretty much happy as long as we're not throwing money into the landfill. I've been really pleased with the thirsties covers + prefold diaper (though these might not work for night time because the don't breath very well - also I think I've figured this out, but it looks like you can't reuse the covers right afterwards but need to rinse them out between usages, right? ) and Tobo loves to desecrate his fuzzibunz. We've had some leak problems with the bumgenius, which is too bad since it is really the only adjustable option in our group. My top favorite things above are both size specific so Tobo may grow out of them sooner than we expect, causing us to repurchase everything a size bigger. So now I must do math and hand waving to figure out the most economic/ease of use choices we have. I'm also thinking about picking up either fleece or wool for the evenings.
Our pastor's wife brought by dinner tonight (shepherd's pie) which was much appreciated. Again, I'm not doing a great job at getting meals either together or in me, mainly because Tobo is a really in-arms little guy right now. Guru and I are talking through ways to make that happen better (other than depending on others to feed us) i've requested needing one hand meals, which I can grab and eat while I've got Tobo in tow.
I did get a chance to watch 3:10 to Yuma, and really enjoyed it. Apparently a remake, it was my kind of situational character drama. Oh and like all good tragedies, almost everyone dies in the end. I was not as impressed with The Prestige the novel. The movie was so good -- I had expected better things from the book. The two really were different animals -- though they share similar characters and "plot hook". The movie succeeds because it presents it a much more approachable manner. That and the novel had a non-ending. It just sort of ends with no real resolution, just a reveal of something you can guess by the 2nd to last chapter.
My guilty mommy confession is I got a shower in today by plopping Tobo down in his crib with his floor gym and hoped he didn't cry too much. He was just starting fuss as I grabbed my towel, so this bodes well. I will continue to bathe. I also re-dummed him this morning to try to get one more hour of needed sleep. I plan to sleep when I put him down during the day...but tobo never goes down. He only wants to be in arms because his butt is sore. I can not wait for this rash to clear up and we can figure out what his real routine is.

Eh, let him cry a little. A clean mommy is a happy mommy. Take care of yourself first, or no one in the house will be taken care of! I will email re: recipes.
I was useful! Holy crap, I am a mom...who KNOWS SOMETHING? This still seems like crazy talk to me, but I'm glad you got some help from the doc.
Hmm, I was going to say maybe the BG isn't fitting him well b/c he's so small, but I see he is over 8 lbs. Can you determine if it's leaking at top or legs? Is insert wet? If not, it's a repelling issue; more likely it is a fit issue and he may just need to grow a bit more.
Most people don't rinse covers between use but do rotate them so they can air out a bit. Unless it got poopy of course.
I really need to blog re: diapers!
re: leaks
They (I say they because the fb did it today) seems to be coming out the top not the legs, usually when he's been napping. And honestly, when is he not napping? That is 75% of his day right now. The diapers seem to fit him, and I thought it might be a repelling issue either that or these are great diapers on active, upright babies, and that right now tobo needs the equivalent of a nighttime solution during the day. (ie wool or fleece cover. Interestingly enough we've had no problem with the prefolds+cover either at night or during the day. Just the pockets seem to be doing it. Please do blog about diapers when you get a chance.
I have never used cloth diapers, but those Fuzzibunz sound good to me! fleece against my bum all day? Awesome!
